Old White Gloss Blanket Box to Matt Grey storage And side table
Found an old blanket box online for a tenner. Was painted gloss white (why was this done to every piece of furniture in the 80's in Ireland.) and was nicked all over from being rubbed against. The slow close hinge was an almighty squeaker.
It's now part of my man chair set-up and I love it it's the perfect height for my tea and tablet and whatever book I'm reading
Step 1: Sand Back
Sanded Back the white gloss, a very laborious task, the box itself is actually made of a very nice solid wood.
Step 2: Paint!
I settled on a Matt Grey furniture paint. I hand painted the outside of the box and as I'm using it as a side table I added a layer of clear coat to the lid surface.
Step 3: Stop the squeak
The squeaky hinge resolved with trusty WD40 White Lithium grease, took the squeak right out of it.
